Contract Summarizer accepts three file types: Microsoft Word documents (.doc and .docx), digitally-created PDF files, and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx). Most contracts you receive by email or download from a website will work without any preparation.

Google Docs and Google Sheets are cloud-based formats that must be downloaded before uploading to Contract Summarizer. From Google Docs go to File → Download → Microsoft Word (.docx) and upload the downloaded file. From Google Sheets go to File → Download → Microsoft Excel (.xlsx).

A digital PDF is a document that was created or saved directly from a computer application such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or a legal document platform. When you click inside a digital PDF you can highlight and select the text — this means Contract Summarizer can read it automatically. A scanned PDF is a paper document that was physically placed on a scanner or photographed and converted to PDF format. Scanned PDFs look identical to digital PDFs on screen but contain images of text rather than actual text characters. Contract Summarizer cannot automatically extract text from scanned documents.

Open the PDF and try to click and drag to highlight a word. If the text highlights and you can copy it your PDF is digital and will work with Contract Summarizer. If nothing highlights or you can only select the entire page as an image your PDF is scanned.

You have two options. The first and simplest is to open the scanned PDF, use your mouse to select all visible text (Ctrl+A on Windows, Command+A on Mac), copy it (Ctrl+C), and paste it directly into the text box on the Contract Summarizer analysis page. This works for many scanned documents depending on how they were created.

Tables embedded in Word documents are read and analyzed along with the main contract text. Exhibits and schedules attached as separate files should be uploaded individually if you want them analyzed. Excel files containing contract schedules or payment tables are fully supported.

Documents created in Apple Pages, LibreOffice, or OpenOffice should be saved as Microsoft Word format (.docx) before uploading. In most applications this is done through File → Save As → select Word format.

Yes. Contract Summarizer supports documents up to 150 pages. For longer documents we recommend uploading the core contract sections separately. Most standard contracts — leases, service agreements, NDAs, purchase agreements, and employment contracts — fall well within this limit.
